Happy Friday! Gosh, I can't believe this is the last Friday of February!! I'm so ready for March and all it has to offer. Spring is on the way and daylight savings time....this morning at 7:00am it was already 65 degrees and I believe the high is supposed to get up to 72 degrees today. Thinking of Spring, I began to think of cute Sundresses and Sandals which brings me to my Style Craving obsession today...Bold Jewelry Pieces!

In the Spring I love to accessorize and bring in different kinds of jewelry to my wardrobe. There's no more scarves, gloves or hats so the next best thing to up your outfits are big and beautiful bold jewelry pieces. I love the few pieces I have found below!

Inspiring Rooms

Happy Wednesday! The Hubby and I are moving from our apartment to a house so lately I've been in home décor mode and are inspired by the most things. I have so many design ideas running through my mind like color schemes, living room furniture, patio furniture {yes, we have a patio and a fenced in back yard...so excited about this} and wall art. The part I don't like about moving is the packing and moving boxes! We have about a month left to get everything packed up, you never know how much stuff you have until you have to pack it into boxes.

I've found some pretty inspiring rooms on Pinterest that has given me even more inspiration!

1. What is your name and what do you blog about?

Hey Glow Kouture readers! My name is Amanda and I blog over at Royal Daughter Designs. What will you find at RDD? These days I'm sticking to a blog schedule that includes documenting my 2012 goal to plan our menu one month at a time; tutorials to help you beautify your blog, and the occasional freebie printable. I throw in a few inspiring posts, plus a giveaway here and there, thanks to some awesome sponsors (including my lovely host - Kenye!)

I also blog about my faith, what it means to follow the Lord in unrehearsed obedience, and the misadventures of being a first time "mom" to three foster boys, ages 10, 11, and 15 on my personal blog, DAES of Our Lives.

2. What type of Blog Design Services do you offer?

Currently I offer design services for blogger, including premade and custom designs. I'm in the process of tackling WordPress, and I will be offering design services on Wordpress within the next few weeks. I also offer design packages that include Etsy Branding, and Facebook landing pages.

3. What has inspired you to be a Graphic/Web Designer?

I dabbled in blog design for about two and a half years just tweaking my own blog. In September (the same month that our foster boys arrived) I officially launched Royal Daughter Designs after several friends (and strangers-turned-blogging-friends) recruited my help in beautifying their blogs. Now I am able to work from home, while ministering to our foster boys, a true "God-thing" - ya know?

4. Is there a meaning behind your blog name?

The blog name Royal Daughter Designs is based on Psalm 45:13 - "The royal daughter is all glorious within." I believe that true beauty begins on the inside and radiates outward. I so desire to demonstrate inner beauty, and the name Royal Daughter Designs is a tribute, and a reminder, of my ultimate purpose.

5. How long have you been blogging and why did you want to start a blog?

I started blogging (At DAES of Our Lives) in 2008. My husband and I had moved away from family to Fort Worth, TX, while he was pursuing his Ph.D. Like so many others, I started writing a blog so our family could stay up to date on what was going on in our lives.

6. Valentines's Day is this month, What has been your favorite gift in the past for Valentine's Day?

I guess my husband and I are weird - we don't really exchange gifts at Valentine's Day. We always exchange cards (sometimes homemade!) and we always have a nice dinner, but we don't exchange gifts.

7. What do you like to do in your spare time when not designing or blogging?

I don't really have spare time these days! My boys keep me running halfway across Texas just to get them to appointments and activities! When I do have free time I love to read, and hiking through the woods with my black lab is a great way to relax. Most of all, I love to spend time with my husband!

8. What advice do you have for newbie bloggers/handmade shop owners just starting out?

Advertise. Set an advertising budget and don't go over it. Let's say your budget is $30 per month - decide if you'd rather have your name and logo on 3-4 smaller blogs, or on just one bigger blog. I recommend alternating every month or two - my first two months I advertised on a really big blog, the next two months I advertised on several smaller blogs. There are benefits to both, so consider what your ultimate goal is and go with it.

If you can't afford to advertise, then seek sponsor swapping opportunities with anyone you can! The more your name and logo are out there - the better brand recognition you'll get.

9. Do you own/write for any other blogs?

Just the two I mentioned earlier.

10. How can people get in touch with you?

E-mail, Facebook, Twitter, Blog Lovin', Pinterest

11. What are your thoughts on Google Friend Connect going away for non-blogger site users?

Oh boy...you might be sorry you asked this!

First of all, I think google's decision was bad for their consumers, but good for them. I understand why they did it. They're trying to promote Google + (that's the same reason they're getting rid of Picnik too.)

That being said, anyone who has an account with blogger, even if they blog on Word Press or some other non-blogger site, will continue to have access to their google account. It is linked to their e-mail address, not their blog. So those of us with GFC, will not see numbers go down.

For those who do not blog on blogger, I think that using Blog Lovin or Linky Followers is a great option. Personally, I think most people prefer to follow by facebook or twitter anyway, so I guess I don't see it as that big of a deal.

Beau Got A Puppy Trim!

Happy Wednesday! I took Beau to the groomer and he got a puppy trim hair cut and bath. I was a bit skeptical on leaving him with the groomer because this would be his first time out alone without me {He's only 12 weeks} but I did it and I'm so happy I did! This is what he looked liked......

The Hunt For MakeUp Organization

Happy Wednesday! I'm not a heavily makeup person but I do wear it from time to time and I have the basic essentials such as: Lipstick, Foundation, Powder, Mascara, Eye Shadow, Eye Liner and Lip Gloss. I've decided that I need to organize my makeup so when I'm in a hurry to get to work in the morning I can find what I'm looking for. Currently, my makeup is in the bathroom in a drawer {see below}.

I'm looking to find something durable that can sit in the linen closet or on the bathroom vanity. It would be ideal to have all of my eye shadows together, eyeliners together and foundation/powder together. I've found some pretty good ideas over the web, see below!

5 Tips On Staying Motivated....

Happy Tuesday! As an Indie Biz owner, sometimes I have problems staying motivated, which I'm sure everyone has this from time to time. Sales may be low or you've created something new for the shop and its not selling at all, You're having a problem of thinking of new designs to create or you just don't have enough time in the day to get what you would like to get done. Although, I may have little motivation at times giving up is not an option. I do believe things take time and happen when you least expect it. Below are a list of things to do that help me stay motivated when I feel that I need a small pick me up.

1. Going for a walk outside. It's always good to get out and get a breath of fresh air. Staying stuck in the house or in your work studio/area could be a bit much and you could easily get distracted. Whenever I take a walk, I come back feeling rejuvenated plus I feel like I got a little exercise in for the day.

2. Read inspiring blogs. I love reading all types of blogs and actually set aside a time a day to read and catch up on what other Indie Biz owners like myself are doing. Seeing what's new in the creative world can be so inspiring and can spark a bit of creative energy! Some of my favorite blogs that I read daily are Jessica N Designs, Dirty Laundry, Fly, Design Sponge, and Gussy Sews.

3. Try out a new recipe. I love cooking so finding a great recipe over the web and trying to make it is so fun! Sometimes the turnout can be good or bad but at least you know you've tried something new!

4. Have lunch with your hubby or close friend if you're not married. In the average family, most people work 9-5 jobs and if you're married you see your spouse in the morning leaving for work and in the evening coming home from work. So how about setting up a lunch date at your favorite restaurant? It could be a little mid-day pick me up. I don't know about everyone else but spending time with my husband or close friends make me happy.

5. Take a trip to your favorite store. Now, my favorite store is a Fabric Boutique {and JoAnns}. It could also be a store in the local shopping mall or a tech store like Best Buy. You are sure to have a burst of inspiration or motivated to get back to doing what you were doing.

Staying on track and staying motivated is the key to success in my opinion. If these two elements are missing then there may be a problem down the road. I'm just saying...

Happy Tuesday! Owning a handmade business/shop is not as easy as you think. There's a lot that goes into being your own boss and selling items that you have made perfectly with love! The most important part of your business is the marketing structure. If you don't have a set structure in the marketing side of your business, you're most like not to make any sales or gain any customers that repeatedly come back to shop for more. If you don't have a personal marketing assistant, pretty much everything is left up to the owner to juggle all components of the marketing structure within your business.

When I first started my handmade business in 2008, I had no clue on what I was doing. Sales were down for the first year because I only marketed my biz to close friends and family. When I finally branched out to having an online shop, selling at craft fairs and advertising on other blogs my weekly sales sky rocketed. I have come up with an effective marketing structure in my business, which has helped me tremendously and I will share it with you all today!

So, as the Owner of your business you are responsible for Customer Loyalty, Brand Strategy, Brand Communication and Retail Marketing. If you have help such as a personal marketing assistant, have weekly meetings to talk about how you can use your marketing structure to grow profitable sales for the next week or month.

Customer Loyalty
Do you offer a loyalty program to your customers? Do you offer discounts? Do host sales throughout the year? If you said yes, to any of those questions you have a Customer Loyalty. Customer Loyalty is giving back to the customer. If you have frequent customers coming back it's always nice to offer some kind of incentive or reward like: a discount, a freebie item with purchase or get their input on new products. Customer Loyalty is a very vital marketing aspect in making a connection with the customer and to keep them coming back.

Brand Strategy
Thinking of ways to make your business better and grow more sales. Under the Brand Strategy umbrella, New Products are usually formed, Promotions are made, and future planning are all thought of in Brand Strategy. Analyzing customer buying trends are ways to build an effective Customer Loyalty Program mentioned above.

Brand Communication
Communicating your handmade business is way of communicating your Brand to a potential customer. One could do this by Word of Mouth, Home Parties, Pop Up Shops, Participating in Craft Shows/Fairs. Other ways to communicate your brand would be:

• Business Cards, Flyers, Direct Mailers and Post Cards
• Advertising on other Blogs
• Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Wordpress, Pinterest, etc.
• Your Online Shop
• Newsletters
• Blogging

Brand Communication is very important, if you don't communicate no one knows you exist.

Retail Marketing
Retail Marketing is about doing your research, Do you know your target audience? The product that you sell, is it functional are people going to get good use out it? These are all things that will help you determine where to market your items and who to market to. Google Analytics is great way to measure your advertising effectiveness, your web traffic and gives insight on what may be working and not working for you. Knowing your customer demographic will help with sales in the future.

Having a well put together Marketing Structure is very important for your business, if you plan on being in business for awhile. I hope this post helps someone out there wondering how to build their business and have effective marketing tactics while doing it.

Wall Stenciling....Oh My!

Happy Tuesday! I love decorating my home with fun and unique home décor items and my favorite stores to shop for décor items are Pier 1, Home Goods, World Market and Pottery Barn. I've been thinking about Wall Stenciling lately, The Hubby and I live in an apartment right now {which there is not much we can do with the eggshell walls} but we are moving to a house soon {smiles..so excited} and we will have more freedom to paint the walls in our home.

Wall Stenciling is using a decorative design template and paint to decorate your walls in your home, its the inexpensive and stylish alternative to wall paper, It also makes for a great accent wall. I believe I would stencil a bathroom, a hallway or a wall in my kitchen. There's so many design options, a few of my favorites are below:

I love the damask and geometric designs, it looks so modern and fresh. A stenciled wall could be a conversation piece when you have guests over. I can't wait to try out this d.i.y and as soon as its finished, I will let you all see the outcome!

Hello to a New Year!

Happy Monday and Hello to a New Year!

I love the beginning of the year because 1.) My birthday is in January, this year puts me into a whole new age group! **smiles** 2.) I feel like I get a fresh new start to to everything in my life and 3.) The Hubby and I get to plan out the vacation trips we would like to go on in the year! A New Year also brings NEW GOALS that one would like to accomplish, whether it's personal, family, or business related. I'm a Capricorn, so I'm always planning ahead and writing goals down and very ambitious in anything I attempt to do. Today, I'm sharing with you 5 personal goals and 5 business goals that I've written that I would like to accomplish in 2012. Here goes:

Personal

• Eat Breakfast Daily {I'm very BAD at not eating breakfast during the week, so this is something that I want to change.}

• Read 3 Books this year

• Really clean out my closet and giveaway clothing, shoes and handbags that don't fit my style anymore. {I think I will do a blog post on the before and after....its a walk in closet and its a must see!}

• Make more of an effort to follow a schedule. {With a day job, my handmade business, household chores and a small puppy now....my regular routine has been somewhat off an dis-organized!}

• Eliminate Fast Food from my diet! {I'm such a fast food junkie, I can't get enough of McDonald's, Wendy's, Cook-Out and Chic Fil-A just to name a few!!! Ha Ha..its so good but this much change though!} :)

Business

• Stick to a business budget {Somewhat tough for me but its a must}

• Donate a portion of profit sales to a charity monthly

• Design New Business Cards, Postcards/Flyers

• Advertise even more on other blogs

{For January 2012, you can see my Ad button on MuchLoveIlly, Royal Daughter Designs and Acute Designs blog to name a few.}

• Update the shop at least 3 times a month with new product.

There my goals are are now written in stone and all I have to do now is make it happen! One of the things that I have already accomplished, was to re-design my blog and shop. As you can see the blog has been re-vamped and more changes may be coming not quite sure yet. My bigcartel shop has been re-designed thanks to the little bit of knowledge that I have acquired in html through google and new "sewn" products are coming to the shop very very soon.

New Additions To Our Family!

Hello All and Happy Thursday!

How was everyone's Christmas!? The Hubby and I had a blast! I always love spending time with family and close friends, this year we had Christmas dinner at my Aunt's home. The Hubby and I both have large families and really enjoy/embrace the Holiday's. I was very surprised on Friday, December 23rd...The Hubby gave me an early Christmas present and it was a puppy!! As many of you know, I've been wanting a "fur-baby" for so long and I finally got one....wow, just thought about it, I got married this year and now we have a little furry thing to love too!

It's a Shih Tzu and his name is Beau {I think we, are still debating on the name}! He's 8 weeks old and he love's to eat, bite on my feet and sleep right now. I just can't resist picking him up and cuddling with him he's soooo little and cute! :)

Sorry for the blurry pictures it was taken with The Hubby's "windows based" smartphone, new pics are sure to come soon! I can not get enough of this little one, he does the funniest things and we are also trying to potty/house train him. If you have any experience or tips...please let me know.

What do you make and how did you get started?

K - We opened up our Etsy store in May of this year. I was always bugging B to open one, and she was always bugging me to open one. Then it just clicked! We would open one together!! We are passionate about handmade goods, and wanted to share the beauty of making something with others. A lot of our items are made from up-cycling our own clothing. Between the two of us, we offer an eclectic mix of handmade sweetness for ladies and sprouts. Custom, one of a kind pieces, are our specialty. We love meeting and working with people, and helping make their vision into a reality.

What is your favorite thing to do during the Holiday season?
B - Drink hot chocolate, DECORATE!! and shop. Oh and eat, cookies, pies, candy, pretty much anything and everything. Then I spend the rest of the year trying to work it all off
K - Visit family and have visitors over!! The Holidays is always a busy time of year for us, and that's how we like it!

Where do you gain inspiration from?
K - Anything and everything! Color combos that catch my eye tend to get my creative juices flowing.
B - Other bloggers, they inspire me daily, my kids toys, the packaging on some of those things is amazing (doesn't take much to impress me) Hobby Lobby, I can walk through that store, and walk out with 100 different ideas in my head.

What is your favorite thing about selling handmade and being a business owner?
We are both stay at home mommas.
K - I love that I can set my own schedule. It's been a learning process for me, but I'm embracing that I'm able to work my business around my kids, and not the other way around. Handmade is so special to me. Being able to make a custom piece for someone is totally a rewarding feeling!
B - Making things with my hands and being a business owner, gives me a sense of accomplishment, and pride (like my kids aren't enough right?) They are, but to actually create something beautiful and desirable to other people really helps me stay connected with me, and being more than just a "mom". Also selling things that are handmade guarantees that every single thing we make and sell is unique and one of a kind. Our products aren't mass produced. Each item is unique and special.

What materials do you like to work with?
K - Love feminine, frilly things such as lace and satin. Also anything bling-ed out I think is SO fun!!
B - Beads and feathers are my all time favorite.

How would you describe the style of your work?
K - Fun, a little bit funky :) I like raw frayed edges, and fabric with a vintage flair.
B - Hmmm?? Fun and playful.

Where do you gain inspiration from?
I gain inspiration from anything that sparks a new idea. I like to sketch designs and just see where my pencil takes me! I just started my shop, so it's just the beginning right now!

What is your favorite thing about selling handmade and being a business owner?
My favorite thing is probably that I provide products for a purpose AND they're stylish. I think people hesitate sometimes to buy another rubber bracelet to help an organization.. it's sad, but also the truth.

I had the opportunity to participate in the Cold Hands Warm Hearts Swap hosted by Much Love Illy and Sandy a la mode this year! I've participated in other swaps but I think this one was by far the best swap ever. I was partnered up with Amanda who blogs over at Dragonflight Apparel she makes screen printed t-shirts and tote bags and she is a Graphic Designer just like me! I also found out that we both like to watch Project Runway and love the color teal! So ok, on to the good stuff, I received a package from Amanda in November and it was wrapped/decorated pretty.

I loved the pretty packaging and tissue paper!

This is what I received! Oh my...such pretty and girlie things!

So here's what I got: Swiss Miss Milk Chocolate Cocoa, 3 Headbands, Handmade Birdie Earrings from a local designer in Texas, Handmade Necklace, Aloe infused pink gloves and footies, and Handmade soap from a local designer in Texas. The note she included was also cute!

and here I am driving to work wearing the cool gloves! It was really cold this morning like 45 degrees and let me just say, my hands did keep moisture and did not dry out like they normally would!

The items that I sent Amanda were: Teal fuzzy gloves, 2 fabric covered pocket mirrors, a handmade wristlet, a purple dragon figurine, a state of Texas necklace from Forever 21 and a handmade fuzzy monster creature. I had so much fun doing this swap and I hope to participate again next year! Thanks Sandy and Ilene!!

What do you make and how did you get started?
I make handmade items that are sewn or otherwise crafted! I love sewing clothing & other things for ladies to wear! In the Spring of 2010 friend of mine was hosting a charity event that sold art pieces. She knew I sewed/crafted/etc. so she asked me if I would donate some items to her event. I donated 10 headbands and some pillow cases. They FLEW off the shelves. All in the name of charity... but still- they were gone with in 15 minutes of the event opening. So with the encouragement of my friends and family, I decided to open up shop. Since then, its been a wild ride.

What is your favorite thing to do during the Holiday season?
I love love love spending time with family, sitting around the fire, and drinking hot chocolate! I also love going shopping with my mom & sister and eating lots of yummy foods:)

Where do you gain inspiration from?

Everywhere. Is that too broad? ha ha! Actually, since I started working at a locally owned fabric store in September, I have been privileged to go to fabric/quilt market and I gained a TON of inspiration from the people I met and the pretty things that I saw. My friend Susanna gives me a lot of inspiration (creatively) and encourages me to just go for it! hmmm where else? Magazines, Anthropologie, Garage Sales... pretty much everywhere!

What is your favorite thing about selling handmade and being a business owner?
I love the connections that I am able to make with people. Its so fun to know that your products are all over the globe!

What materials do you like to work with?
Fabric, fabric, & more fabric! Although, I have recently tried to learn how to crochet-- maybe this will become a fun new hobby!

How would you describe the style of your work?
Girly, trendy-ish, and a tiny bit edgy!

The Holiday's

Happy Monday Everyone!

As you can see, I've changed my blog design over the weekend! I was going to wait until January 1 but I'm like a "kid" I couldn't wait! :) I am changing up my SHOP and that will release in January so look forward to that plus a whole line of new items to go along with it! I'm so excited about this! Can you believe it's already the middle week in December and Christmas is just under two weeks away! I love this time of the year and I really love decorating my home with Christmas decoration. The Hubby and I got our Christmas tree up the day after Thanksgiving and presents wrapped this past weekend.

I also made some gifts for my co-workers at my day job.

...and to get in the festive mood, I had to make Christmas cookies!

It's a MUST for the Holiday Season!! The Hubby and I also got to watch some of our favorite movies such as Elf and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation {that's a classic}! Now we only have left to see is Scrooge, A Christmas Story and The Grinch which are also some of our favorites!!

Recipe of the Day...Chicken Pot Pie!

Happy Friday, Today I have a special recipe that you and the kids will love, Homemade Chicken Pot Pie! Chicken Pot Pie is such a favorite of mine in the Fall/Winter months.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups frozen peas and carrots, thawed under cold water

{I used a frozen vegetable stew mix veggies}

5 tablespoons butter

5 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1/4 cup chopped onion

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1 3/4 cups turkey or chicken broth

2/3 cup milk

2 1/2 to 3 cups diced cooked chicken or turkey

Pastry for 9-inch two crust pie, prepared or purchased

1/4 cup of whipping cream to make sauce thicker

Preparation

Drain frozen veggies; set aside. Heat butter in a 2-quart saucepan over low heat until melted. Stir In flour, onion, salt and pepper.

Cook, stirring constantly until mixture is bubbly; remove from heat then stir in broth and milk.

Place back on heat; heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute.

Stir in chicken and veggies.

Prepare Pastry, roll 2/3 of the pastry into a 13-inch square; ease into ungreased 9-inch square pan. {I used the prepared pastry, so I just unrolled it and put in my baking dish. Don't forget to follow the directions on the package on how to heat your prepared pastry}

Pour chicken mixture into the pastry lined pan

Roll remaining pastry into 11-inch square; Place square over filling; turn edges under and crimp.

Bake in oven at 425 degrees until golden brown and voíla you are done!

What do you make and how did you get started?

I mainly focus on jewelry and appliquéd items (like t-shirts, stuffed animals and ornaments) though I occasionally dabble in home decor as well. I started after the birth of my last baby as a way to de-stress during nap time - and I loved it so much that my house can't hold all my crafts! So I started my little shop to try to pay for my crafting habit.

What is your favorite thing to do during the Holiday season?

I absolutely adore taking my kids out to see the sights. We do pumpkin patches at Halloween, apple picking around Thanksgiving, and look for Christmas tree displays and holidays lights during Christmas. It's so fun to watch their wonder and excitement as they experience these magical places.

Where do you gain inspiration from?

All over! Mostly, I head to the craft store, pick out the supplies I love, and then see what I can make from it :) I also keep an eye out for what people are wearing around me, or what I see in stores or online.

What is your favorite thing about selling handmade and being a business owner?

The ability to use my hobbies for good. I donate 50% of profits to a charity (charities change quarterly) - I feel like I'm making a difference and I also get to do what I love!

What materials do you like to work with?

A bit of everything. I mostly work with metal and glass beads when I make jewelry, and I like to paint on canvas to make wall art, and embroider on cotton and felt. But I'll give anything a try at least once :)

How would you describe the style of your work?

Eclectic. I tend to make 'vintage style' jewelry most often, but since I use whatever I find and take custom orders, I'm pretty adaptable.

I've been so busy lately making things and shipping out orders for the Christmas Holiday! I believe if I roll another Rosie my fingers may fall off, I'm serious. What do you make and how did you get started?
I make bath bombs that look like mini cupcakes called cupcake bath fizzies. I started sewing aprons 1st. Then I decided that I wanted to add more products into my line. I was inspired by some heart shaped bath bombs a friend made as Christmas gifts. So I brainstormed on how I could take bath bombs to the next level. So I thought... cupcakes! I started making the cupcake bath fizzies for holiday 2008 and haven't looked back since!

What is your favorite thing to do during the Holiday season?
Actually I look forward to Christmas vacation. I work so hard throughout the year it's nice to actually have a break to reflect and make goals for the next year!.

Where do you gain inspiration from?
I get inspiration from my daily surroundings. The talent artists at my job, all of the wonderful Etsy shop owners and bloggers. So many cool shops and place to see and to go see in the future.

What is your favorite thing about selling handmade and being a business owner?
The best thing about doing Dirty Laundry are the handful of people that come forth and tell me, in person or through online, that they love my product or my blog. That I've inspired them in some way. Making that personal connection makes me proud that I keep pushing to keep creating every day.

What materials do you like to work with?
For the Dirty Laundry cupcake bath fizzies I mostly use Bramble Berry fragrances. And I also like to use Peak Candle Supply. Having quality fragrances allow me to design the right color and look for the cupcake bath fizzies.

How would you describe the style of your work?
Sweet, delightful and simple.

Happy 1st Friday!! I can't believe it's December already!! It seems like forever since I have written an actual blog post. The weather here in North Carolina where I live is not our typical December weather, for the past two weeks it's been in the low to mid 60s this is typical for October but not December. Last year we had snow like every weekend and we had a major snow storm on Christmas day which was great! I can only hope for the same this year but I think my chances are slim.

I started because I was stuck in a dead end "9-5" job that I hated and I needed a creative outlet. I figured Acute Designs would just be a fun hobby, but it soon turned into an obsession and I worked to grow it into my full time job!

What is your favorite thing to do during the Holiday season?

Bake cookies, eat big meals, visit family, and buy gifts {receiving gifts is pretty great too :)}.

Where do you gain inspiration from?

Everything. I am obsessed with all things old - vintage, antiques, history books, period movies, and so on. I think in today's world we often take things for granted while in the past things were done with more care.

I love being my own boss and doing what I want when I want. I work harder than I ever have before, however I don't have to be any one place for a set number of hours. I can work until midnight and take a break during the day. I love the flexibility. O also love how all the pressure to succeed is on ME. It can be a bit scary but it is gratifying when it all works out.

What materials do you like to work with?

My favorite materials are any vintage pieces I can salvage.

How would you describe the style of your work?

Disorganized....I know where everything is and I remember almost everything, however an outsider looking in might say it is a big mess! I guess I prefer a little chaos.

I got my first sewing machine about 6 years ago as a present from my husband. I had no clue how to sew but was bound and determined to learn! Once I got started I couldn't stop! Most of the items in my shop have been created because of my customers. They are constantly challenging me with new ideas and designs and without them my shop wouldn't be where it is today!

What is your favorite thing about selling handmade and being a business owner?

I love the flexability of being my own 'boss'. Having my own business has allowed me to stay home full-time and take care of my 3 children. I truly feel that buying handmade means you are getting a high quality item that you know the designer put a lot of work and effort into making. That is definitely something that I stand behind in my business!

What materials do you like to work with?

I love working with most anything (sewing isn't my only hobby!) but for my business needs I am mostly drawn to designer fabrics that are bold and fun!

How would you describe your style of work?

funky, fun, chic - a place where you are bound to find something that fits 'your' style!
